Top Challenges Facing Fleet Managers
From controlling costs to keeping drivers safe, fleet managers face many operational challenges on a daily basis. However, vehicle maintenance ranked first on the list, with tires, fuel and oil, and brakes being the costliest services. GPS tracking technology provides the tools necessary to help manage this and other challenges while protecting drivers and vehicles.
Telematics support better maintenance habits and streamline the process by alerting managers when routine work needs to be completed, providing more control over fleet performance. Further, fleet management systems deliver engine diagnostic alerts and detailed vehicle usage reports to control repair costs. Through data and information, GPS tracking is able to improve driver behaviors to reduce wear and tear on tires and brakes, extending the time between maintenance on vehicles.
Main Benefits of Fleet Tracking
There was a wide range of advantages of fleet management systems cited by respondents of the survey, including decrease in fuel consumption, improved vehicle maintenance, reduction in labor costs, and decrease in accident costs. Among the top benefits mentioned, three areas stood out.
Productivity
With 76 percent of participants naming increased productivity as the number-one benefit of GPS tracking, businesses who fully utilize telematics are making the most of their time and energy. Other research shows that fleet managers who implement this technology into their daily operations improve productivity up to 10 to 15 percent.
Improved routing
Routing software can help increase efficiency of yours drivers and your fleet. GPS tracking not only improves routes, it also helps reduce fuel usage and lower greenhouse emissions by monitoring speed and increasing awareness of idle time. Most users reported an estimated 5.5 percent savings in fuel consumption.
Customer service
GPS tracking allows fleet operators to deliver faster, better service, thereby improving the overall customer experience and increasing satisfaction. From product tracking that provides data on when deliveries are made to route optimization that gets drivers from point A to B quickly, fleet management systems keep your business running smoothly and your customers happy.
