What Sort of Training Will My Drivers Need to Use ELDs?

SHARE

Drivers will need guidance on how the ELDs work, what it means for them and the benefits of paperless logging. In some cases, you may need to discuss any concerns they have about the device, how it tracks hours and the potential for misuse.

Other topics that can be included are the process for roadside inspections and what to do in the event of hardware failure.

The FMCSA will offer more guidance over time to assist with the transition.

The reality is that with the introduction of ELDs new drivers will actually need less training, since there is no requirement for them to learn how and when to complete paper logs, other than in the event of an ELD failure.
