Common Myths Series: Fleet management tools require too much time & resource

SHARE

Most fleet-reliant businesses have at least considered the prospect of implementing some form of fleet management system – be it simple GPS tracking or a more comprehensive telematics solution. Many go on to do so, yet others hesitate and ultimately decide against it.

For the companies that choose not to follow up on their interest, the reasons are often the following:

  1. It's not affordable.
  2. I don’t want to be seen to be spying on my staff.
  3. It’s not really necessary

The list goes on.

While these common concerns may seem understandable, in truth, very few of them are based on real facts. They are just some of the many common, perpetuated myths about fleet tracking and its worth.

Let's separate the myth from the measurable.

Myth Five: I don’t have the time or resource to learn a new system

Rolling out any new technology across your business can seem daunting. This is a valid concern: a fleet manager’s time is precious and most simply don’t have enough to spend it learning the ins and outs of a new fleet tracking system.

So why does this objection qualify as a myth? Because, any telematics system worth its salt should not take a great deal of time to learn. In fact, you don’t have to spend any time at your desk learning the how and the what unless you really want to.

You can set up alerts and reports to be sent to you directly. If a driver is speeding or is in an undesignated area, you or a co-worker can be alerted as it happens straight to your mobile or email.

Any time taken to learn the mechanics of your fleet tracking dashboard or app is minimal, and you’ll most likely make up any time it takes through automation of traditionally laborious tasks such as payroll, timesheets and billing.
