Helping fleet managers with vehicle maintenance
UK Government statistics have revealed that nearly 50% of all class 7 goods vehicles between 3-3.5 tonnes fail their annual MOTs.
This suggests that just under half of these vehicles (three years and older) are not roadworthy – highlighting why daily vehicle checks are essential for all commercial vehicles.
Key areas that require attention in the daily check-over include: tyres, steering, mirrors, lights and brakes.
It is important to make sure the checks are completed satisfactorily, as mistakes can be costly for fleet managers.
But help is available. Technologically enabled tools such as the mobile-enabled, paperless Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) allow drivers to complete this quickly and easily using a phone or a tablet.
In doing so, fleet managers can cut down on paperwork, automate compliance checks and most importantly, free up time to get on with the day job.
For managers, it can also include features to determine whether drivers have taken sufficient time to physically inspect the vehicle, safeguarding against any ‘pencil-whipping’.
