UK motorists are taking a relaxed attitude towards dangerous driving
A new study by the AA has found that over half of UK motorists believe that they can get away with dangerous driving due to a lack of police presence on the roads.
The findings show 54% of drivers feel they would escape prosecution if they used a mobile phone while driving, and 55% agree they wouldn’t be pulled over for driving a defective or dangerous vehicle.
The survey results will be of interest to fleet managers as they hold responsibility for driver safety and behaviour. Organisations with strong safety credentials typically experience reduced vehicle and driver downtime, as well as lower insurance and compliance costs compared to organisations who have a more relaxed attitude to speeding.
Many fleet managers turn to Mobile Resource Management (MRM) to keep on top of speeding. The technology provides near real-time visibility of fleet vehicles, helping fleet managers to keep track of driver behaviour including: speeding, dramatic acceleration or hard braking.
The near real-time functionality enables fleet managers to act quickly and identify speeding vehicles almost immediately. MRM goes beyond traditional telematics as fleet managers can set up gamification leader boards to reward drivers who drive safely. Further, MRM can also help businesses to optimise operations and gain improved visibility of the business, increase efficiency and cut costs.
